  • 2 pounds ground chuck
  • 2 tablespoons garlic (diced)
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 2 cans (14 oz each) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) red kidney beans (drained)
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup jalapeños (sliced, seeded)
  • 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons masa harina

Instructions

  1. Heat the canola oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook for 3-5 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and ground beef; cook until browned.
  2. Lower heat to medium-low, then add Italian seasoning, chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, brown sugar, vinegar, crushed tomatoes, drained beans, black pepper, salt, jalapeños, and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine.
  3. Simmer for about 10 minutes. Add masa harina to thicken the chili and cook for an additional 10 minutes until desired thickness is reached.
  4. Serve hot with optional toppings like sour cream, shredded cheese, tortilla chips, or avocado slices.
