Sweet and Sour Tofu Nuggets are a delightful, crispy plant-based treat that combines the perfect balance of tangy sweetness and savory crunch. This dish features golden-fried tofu nuggets tossed in a luscious sweet and sour sauce, complemented by fresh bell peppers and onions.   • 1 block firm tofu, drained and pressed
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/4 cup apple vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (slurry)
  • 1/2 cup bell peppers, diced
  • 1/2 cup onions, diced
  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.
  2. In a bowl, mix cornstarch, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Dredge tofu cubes in the cornstarch mixture until fully coated.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry coated tofu nuggets until golden brown and crispy on all sides. Drain on paper towels.
  5. In a separate saucepan, combine pineapple juice, apple vinegar, brown sugar, soy sauce, and ketchup; bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  6. Add the cornstarch slurry to the sauce and stir until thickened.
  7. Mix in diced bell peppers and onions; cook for an additional 2–3 minutes until slightly tender.
  8. Toss fried tofu nuggets in the sweet and sour sauce until well coated.
  9. Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions.
