  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Warm gently without boiling.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with half of the cheddar and Parmesan cheese.
  4. Repeat layering with remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
  5. Dot the top with butter and cover with foil.
  6. Bake covered for 40 minutes; then remove foil and bake an additional 20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
