Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • ½ cup yellow onion (diced)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese
  • ½ lb. macaroni (2 cups)
  • 1½ cups beef broth
  • 8 oz. tomato sauce
  • ½ cup half and half
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon ketchup
  • ½ beef bouillon cube
  • ¾ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¾ teaspoon dried basil
  • ¾ teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. In a large measuring cup, combine the sauce ingredients and set aside.
  2. Season ground beef with salt and pepper. In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook and crumble the beef for about 3 minutes; add onions and sauté until beef is cooked through (5–6 minutes). Drain grease.
  3. Boil water for pasta, adding salt once boiling.
  4. In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic, flour, and tomato paste; stir for 1–2 minutes.
  5. Gradually add sauce mixture to the skillet while stirring continuously until thickened. Bring to a boil then reduce to simmer.
  6. Cook pasta al dente in boiling water; drain when done.
  7. Stir cheese into the sauce until melted. Add ground beef and macaroni to combine.
  8. Optionally sprinkle reserved cheese on top, cover to melt, and serve.
